2019 Hyundai Kona Electric Raises Eco-Friendly Bar

There’s a new Hyundai Kona in town and it’s electrifying. During the New York International Auto Show last month, the Korean carmaker unveiled the brand-new 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric crossover. This marks the first time Hyundai has offered a compact electric crossover in the U.S. market.

With this new eco-friendly option, the brand hopes to appeal to those consumers who have active lifestyles and are interested in going green. “Our new Kona Electric crossover is a stylish and efficient compact CUV, tailored to the needs of customers who pursue eco-focused active lifestyles requiring generous rage,” explained Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate, and Digital Planning for Hyundai Motor America.

The Kona Electric will keep a similar body shape to the gas-powered model, though its front fascia has changed, incorporating a closed grille, rather than the slotted version normally seen on gas vehicles. It will have a segment-leading 250-mile estimated range, while still offering 201 horsepower and 291 lb-ft of torque.

Along with this top-notch performance and range, the 2019 Kona Electric will also come with a standard floating touchscreen, Hyundai’s Smart Sense suite of safety technologies, and Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™.

The Kona Electric will arrive in the fourth quarter of 2018, though it will only be on sale in California and other states in the western and northeastern regions of the U.S. market.
